Metrolink Commuter Train Crash

On September 12, 2008, Metrolink train #111 carrying 225 passengers collided head on with a Santa Fe cargo train loaded with fresh strawberries. The crash happened in the Southwest San Fernando Valley neighborhood called Chatsworth. Twenty-five people were killed, including Metrolink engineer, Robert Sanchez. More than 135 others were injured. National Transportation Safety Board investigators later said Sanchez caused the accident by running a red light. Cell phone records indicate Sanchez was texting immediately before the crash.
